Pittsburgh Electric Specialties Co. — Type 6 Antique Desk Fan, c. 1920s
A rare and charming piece of American electrical history, this Pittsburgh Electric Specialties Co. Type 6 desk fan dates to approximately the 1920s and retains tremendous character and presence.
Features:
- Maker: Pittsburgh Electric Specialties Co. — clearly marked on both the brass badge hub medallion and the embossed motor nameplate
- Type: 6, AC & DC Universal Motor, rated 110–130 Volts
- Blades: Four original brass blades, approximately 6" sweep — warm golden patina throughout
- Cage: Original wire cage with ring guard, intact with age-appropriate surface wear
- Motor housing: Black japanned cast iron with original textured finish, showing honest wear and patina
- Base: Heavy cast iron dome base, nickel/pewter-toned finish
- Height: Approximately 9" tall
- Weight: Substantial — heavy cast iron construction throughout
Condition: Unrestored, all-original survivor. The brass blades, hub medallion, and motor nameplate are all present and legible. The motor housing shows paint loss and age patina consistent with 100 years of existence. The fan has been tested and is working fine but re-wiring is STRONGLY recommended.
